Professional Licensure

an image of the word license

NC-SARA does not cover professional licensing board approval for programs leading to state licensing or certification. If the online program that you are considering is designed to lead to professional licensure or certification in your state, please read the information under each applicable program below. All other UNH Online programs not listed below are not designed or intended to lead to professional licensure or certification.

Due to certain states’ restrictions and policies, UNH Online programs may not meet each state’s full requirements. This may result from extensive requirements for clinical placements, faculty state licensure, prior program curriculum approval and other administrative policies.

For each program below, prospective students will find their home state in one of the following categories:

  • UNH Online has determined that its curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification.
  • UNH Online has determined that its curriculum does not meet the state educational requirements for licensure or certification.
  • UNH Online has not made a determination that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification.

If you have any questions about program authorization, please contact UNH Online.

Additional requirements may include, but are not limited to, additional post-graduation examinations or experience, application and licensing fees, criminal background checks, reference checks, and other requirements. It is important that you be aware of all such requirements and that you plan accordingly.

To assist in contacting your state licensing board, NC SARA Professional Licensure Directory provides contact information for each state’s social work licensing board: https://www.nc-sara.org/resources/professional-licensure

Information about state-by-state licensure requirements can also be found on the Association of Social Work Boards website.
