<div>Esmaeil Bahalkeh, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire’s Department of Health Management and Policy. His research focuses on Hospital Operations Management, and Healthcare Access, with funding from NIH. His work has been widely published in top peer-reviewed journals. He is actively engaged in INFORMS, DSI, and other professional organizations, and contribute to shaping health policies and improving healthcare delivery systems. His research focuses on improving how healthcare systems deliver care and expand access, with two main streams: Hospital Operations Management, and Healthcare Access.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In the Hospital Operations Management stream, he studies how hospitals can better manage their resources, workforce, and internal processes. The goal is to provide high-quality care while staying financially sustainable. This work is especially important as hospitals face rising costs, staffing challenges, and financial pressures. His work explores strategies to improve patient flow, designs effective nurse staffing models, manages hospital inventory and finances more efficiently, and examines the impact of hospital mergers and system affiliations on performance and outcomes.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In the Healthcare Access stream, he studies how patients access care across the full spectrum of services. As hospital capacity becomes more limited, other parts of the system (e.g., emergency medical services, long-term care, ambulatory care) play a larger role. His research examines ways to improve access to these services. He evaluates the effectiveness and impacts of operational changes, policy initiatives, and new technologies on healthcare access.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>He teaches sequences of Healthcare Operations Management courses for BS in Health Management and Policy program, and Quality and Process Improvement in Healthcare for Doctoral Nursing program.</div>
